Why Teach Sight Words?

Sight words are words in the English language that do not have a simple one-to-one correspondence between sounds and letters; in other words, they must be memorized and instantly recognized. They make up over 50-70% of total words in an average non-technical text. Children who can quickly recognize sight words can read better by focusing on inferring unfamiliar words while still understanding most of the text. Learning sight words is crucial for substantial reading improvement.

1. WORD MACHINE: Control the Word Machine. Tap on the words called to produce them.
2. SPELLING: Feed your hungry dog by creating cans with letter cards in the correct order to spell the word heard.
3. BINGO: Match words heard with those on cards to play Bingo and help the Aliens go back home.
4. MEMORY GAME: Match sounds with correct word forms by tapping on speakers and selecting corresponding cards.
5. GEARS: Tap on speakers to hear words pronounced and place them across speakers to animate gears.
6. FLASH CARDS: Practice with flashcards by listening to the word pronounced repeatedly.
